I wound up playing Civ 5 for like most of the day. The game really, really holds up well. It's kinda unsurprising that it does considering that Civ 6 is mostly just an iteration on it, but still, it's honestly way better. The one thing that I don't really like is how the AI treats religion. There's no religious victory in Civ 5, so the religious combat mechanics are mostly irrelevant outside of cultural victory, and even then religion only makes it easier (it boosts tourism), but the AI will usually spread religion pretty aggressively for some reason, which is really annoying when your religion is tailored for your civ and your goals. The one positive is that if they have buildings from one of their belifs you can build them, but overall it's just kind of a huge annoyance.
